Outdated Penang Uncle PageRank

PageRank of this blog is not consistent. I did reach PR1 last year, but then it drop to zero after Google panda update. Don't ask me what is panda update, google it if you want. :P

Recently I found out this blog is getting PR2. Wow! Jump from zero to PR2!

Some blogging/website experts told that backlink is very important to PageRank, most important is quality backlink. I am not hiring anyone to create backlink to this blog. All I did is just comment on other blog and website of my opinion on their articles.

Blogger has new look

I hope I am not too outdated to write this. :P
Blogger has new look now. Using the same old interface for a few years already, suddenly need to change. But luckily it all just make it look nicer, so that it don't looks like dinosaur age blogging platform. But did Google improve the performance?

Anyway, why with the cosmetic change? I think it is because other blogging platform are catching up with blogger. So Google has to do something about it.

I am writing a new post regarding printing large image to multiple pages, still work in progress. Note the "Publish", "Save", "Preview" are on top right, not below the writing box anymore. Also a "close" button(?), wonder what it does, close without save?


Other settings for each post moved to right side of the writing box.


You can see how many comments and pageview for each post. Others settings like Layout, Settings, etc are at left side of the page.


I start to like this new interface, will continue use this for another few days. However if you don't like it, you still able to to switch back to the old interface, at right top of above picture.

Again, I hope Google improve the performance and stability of blogger as well. There was some outage over the years. Another thing we can do is to speed up the loading time, like what I did in this post.

How do I speed up my blog loading time

If you have noticed, this blog has been loading very slow since few weeks ago. And some of the people come to this blog just leave because it is taking forever to load! (Actually it took more than 20 seconds for some text to appear, that is very very slow for time like this). However I have found the problematic code that causing the slowness. Now it should be loading fine. :)

Here is what happen:
1. Start notice loading of this blog become very slow on beginning of Jul 2011.
2. Suspect streamyx issue, check out on other networks, but still slow.
3. Tried IE (super slow as usual), Maxthon, Chrome, Firefox, RockMelt and Safari, this blog still loading slow on all  these browsers. So this is not browser problem.
4. Moved "Stop Child Abuse" and "STOP LYNAS!" to a page called Community service, still slow, but keeping these in one page is good, makes this blog looks cleaner.
5. Moved cbox, shoutbox, weibo to another page, but still slow.
6. Have a thought of might be the pages listed below the header, so moved them to end of posting, not helping, so move it back to under the header.
7. I google around and found Yahoo! YSlow add on for FireFox and Chrome, installed the add-on on Chrome, check out the this blog, found some possible problems, but couldn't do much because some of the widget on my blog is default from blogger.
8. Then I found Pingdom Tool, this website can show me the loading time of each java script, page, and image. And from this tool that I found where is the problem. It is actually some link website by yahoo previously and with the website down, all browser that trying to load my blog will wait for it until time out for about 20 to 30 seconds. After remove that code, my blog loading time go back to normal.

This is the pingdom result before I remove the problematic code:

 This is after, the loading time is reduced to less than 10 seconds.

This is the history of each test, there was a 3.66 seconds that before problematic code being remove, I think that is incorrect, probably the test did not finish. Anyway, you can see on 19 Jul, the loading time reduced to less than 10 seconds.

That is the best website tool I ever encounter, you can also use it to debug your blog/website. :)

How to counter attack "LIKE" button?

Facebook "LIKE" button is too powerful that Google has to be afraid, so what Google did? They created the "+1" button, and it has been default for all blogspot since blogger owned by Google. Here is the snapshot of my +1 button on this blog. Nice?

You don't need to do anything to enable it, that's why I have Google is desperate already, hehehe. As long as you enabled "Show Share Buttons", +1 button would appear with other sharing button like email, facebook, twitter, etc. :D

Now Google, let me join adsense. :P

How to post blog post in later date and time in Blogger

1. Sign into your blogger account, usually it will take you to dashboard.
2. Click "New post" and start writing your blog post as usual.
3. Remember to click "Save Now" from time to time to avoid your post lose in nowhere because internet connection or pc/laptop/mac/phone problem.
4. Before press "Publish Post" button, click on "Post Options" on the bottom left of the box where you compose the post.
5. Change the date and time on the boxes below "Post date and time" to the date/time that you want this post to be publish. (You can also choose to allow reader comments or not).
6. After you finish set the date and time, click "Publish Post".
7. Then it will go to the list of blog post, the post that you write just now will have "scheduled" word next to it indicating it haven't being publish yet.

How To Put Picture Side by Side in Blogspot or Blogger?

Hi blogger out there, sometime we have pictures or photos to insert into our blog posting, however you should noticed that the pictures or photos cannot be placed side by side, and I did try to changed the setting during uploading the pictures to blogger, but it didn't help at all! After some googling, I found out that the option to place pictures side by side is not available in control panel for unknown reason. The easy part is to do HTML coding. 'HUH? how am I going to do that?!' you might have this thought, don't worry, this is very easy. For those already have experience with HTML, this is piece of cake! You can either use free image hosting site or upload the picture first to blogger and then make the HTML code changes, your choice.
